Course Description:
In this series, I'm going to teach you how to understand the global positioning system, test it for accuracy and show you how easy it is to find any location anywhere at any time of day.
(NO CELLULAR SIGNAL NEEDED!)
Consisting of all the material I presented during last years 2019 Nightscape Photography Confererence but in a comfortable classroom type setting.

Pre-Scouting Using Google Earth and it’s many resources
(Pre-plan your next trip).
•Using Google Drive to store KML files for easy offsite retrieval.
•Setting up the app for landscape scouting.
•Google Earth couch surfing workflow demystified.
•Explanation of toolbar tools and their functionality.
•Navigating through time to pre-visualize sunrise/sunset or MilkyWay/Moon Alignment.
•Using snapshots and saving viewpoints.
•Verifying MW positioning using the Stellerium overlay system.
•Importing and exporting tracks and waypoints.
•Organizing and backing up your “My Places” sidebar.

Using and Understanding the Global Positioning System
•Overview of the GPS network and it’s functionality.
•Purpose of Geo-spatial Data acquisition. (terrain relief)
•Diagnosing and testing GPS devices and Satellite signal testing.
•The Keyhole Markup Language and it’s format capabilities.
•Converting between GPS coordinate formats.
Segment #3
Using GPS apps to explore and navigate the wilderness
•Orientating an actual map and compass.
•Aligning Gaia GPS to an actual physical compass.
•Orientating yourself on the map.
•Adjusting settings for landscape exploration.
•Using and understanding the toolbars.
•Navigating in the map, dropping waypoints and taking in-app photos.
•Using the auto-mapping features.
•Downloading maps for offline use.
•Importing and exporting files between devices.

The Anatomy of an Image
•Using bit depth 8/16/32 to store image data.
•Understanding how the histogram displays an image.
•Clarifying the difference between tones and hues.
•Controlling grays and blacks in the RGB color mode.
•Using Grey balance to remove a color cast and create separation throughout an image.
